RFID Technology
The main goal of an RFID system is to carry data on a transponder (tag) that can be retrieved with a transceiver through a wireless connection. The ability to access information through a non-line-of-sight storage in a tag can be utilized for the identification of goods, locations, animals, and even people. Discerning specific information from these tags will have profound impacts on how individuals in commerce and industry keep track of their goods and each other.
A second aspect of this project was to investigate RFID as a tracking tool. The purpose of this project is to develop a system that can track the motion of a person within a building. Advantage of the system is that it would be for person location, without anything besides a badge on a person. Disadvantage - The range of detection may be severely hampered by metal in the walls (cables) - A tag must be worn. With the TR1100 and its 1 Mbps data rate, it should be possible to transmit other data to the badge. Perhaps in the future, one can do an intercom system via this link.
