Naturemill Project
The Smart Home is in need of a “smart” waste management system. We already have recycling bins, but there are no options for organic waste, which can make up large portions of trash. By diverting organic waste into a composting unit instead of the trash, the home would become more environmentally-friendly by reducing trash substantially and also producing free fertilizer for outside the home.
Goals:
To measure, for a period of time, the volume or weight of waste that is composted instead of thrown in the trash. The percentage of waste diverted by composting can then by calculated and displayed inside the home or on the website. This can encourage the public who tours the home and visits the website to compost themselves.
