Cold Box For the Developing World
Electrically generated cold storage for small amounts of medical substances needed in hospital rooms (such as oxytocin) is not readily available in most parts of third world countries where a reliable power source may not exist. The overall goal of this project is to design and build working prototypes of devices fulfilling the aforementioned functionality with an emphasis upon performance, durability and safety. Our approach to designing this will be to assess various design solutions according to the goal-based specifications and then consulting with professionals who have an expertise in the subject field prior to design implementation. We expect the final product to include a voltage-based cooling system with the ability to provide portable cold storage which maintains a 4°C±8°C internal temperature for at least 14 hours through a solar or electromechanical mechanism power supply.
